The road to having our own baby with a surrogate

It is amazing to know that there are people out there that would offer to carry a baby for strangers – just because they want someone else to experience the joy of parenthood. We are so lucky to have found “our person”.

My hubby and I drove up to her on the other side of the country to take her and her gorgeous 2 daughters out for an ice cream. We ended up staying for 3 hours with this amazing family. I know it sounds crazy that I wanted her kids to meet us, but there is a very important reason behind this – her kids gave her the go-ahead to do this and that makes them heroes in my eyes and they deserve to know who they are helping.

What is next?

We are still waiting for a court date (high court). At least our application went in just before the courts closed.

Tomorrow I start with my first injections (in my tummy if the rumours are true). Then Monday a scan and between the 17th and 19th of January hopefully a harvest of viable eggs. Then they get fertilised and frozen.

When the application is approved our surrogate will start with injecting herself in the abdomen to ready her womb and then some of the frozen embryos will be thawed and implanted via IVF.

What I really hope for… twins. I don’t think 1 kid is enough. I seriously doubt 1 kid will be able to keep up with me.

I am a Johannesburg based freelance writer, social media manager - and of course share bits from my life with you on this blog. We have 2 kids through surrogacy and 3 black cats.
