5 things I’ve learnt after having a kid

Having Lexa has changed our lives and we’ve had to adapt to having a kid in the house. There are times when you wish you can have just 5 minutes of silence… but then you realise that she’ll be up to no good if that wish comes true!

5 things I’ve learnt as a parent

  1. Just because it is bed time…
Our ideal may be that Lexa goes to bed at 6 and get up at 7 the next morning, but time means nothing when there is a kid involved. Sometimes no matter what you do there is no nap during the day and when that happens night time is a nightmare. Waking up at 3 in the morning to give a fresh bottle and do a diaper change should be done cat burglar quiet.
  2. Food…
Food from your plate tastes better than the bowl of food dished from the same pots and pans as your food. Also, don’t expect to be able to eat all the food on your plate all by yourself. Also look out for the food that gets spit back onto your plate. Sometimes it’s OK to eat floor crisps if that is all you are going to get – really.
  3. New clothes…
The most important thing is to remove the tags before you get home and hand over a bag of clothes still in the bag. That way Lexa can drag around her new clothes in a bag – sometimes she won’t remove it. Leaving on the tags will only result in clothes with holes.
  4. Handbags aren’t sacred…
When you love handbags as much as I do you treat them like little pieces of gold, but when you have a kid that wants to carry it around, spit half chewed sweets in it… that’s when you know it is time to gift her with her very own handbag.
  5. Everybody has an opinion…
I’m talking about dear mother in law has a little nugget to share about each and every thing you do, but she can’t even keep her own cellphone safe. Nip it in the bud, if you allow it, it will never stop. As parents we can only do our best, we don’t need the peanut gallery.

Social Media…

Mom’s that think it is OK to share photos of their children online half-naked, tagged at specific locations or in school uniforms should wake up to the security risks associated with that. Did you know that if you get tagged by friends that regularly check-in at home and all that nice location data you give out on social media can be used to track you and ultimately let anyone find you (and your child)? Just saying…

  1. i love this! I can relate with #2 and #4, Mpilo eats 2 meals at each mealtime, hers and a bit of mine, always!
I can’t even count the number of times I get to work and I find that something is missing from my handbag because she has taken it out and shoved it under the couch

Leave your 2 cents worth...
